RAMI AV-530 is a VHF COM antenna for 118–137 MHz with a die-cast aluminium base and a tapered stainless steel whip for lower drag at higher airspeeds. RAMI lists it as a direct replacement for the CI 292-1. The antenna is 22.75 in (578 mm) high, weighs 0.5 lb (227 g) and has a female BNC connector.
It is vertically polarized with an omnidirectional pattern, 50 Ω nominal impedance, a VSWR of 2.5:1 maximum and 25 W RF power capacity. The FAA has authorized the AV-530 to TSO-C37d and TSO-C38d. RAMI rates the antenna for 350 mph and 50,000 ft.
Three mounting holes and a 5/8 in (15.9 mm) connector hole are drilled from the template, which marks the front of the aircraft. The rubber pad, an internal back-up plate and the mounting hardware are supplied; the 50 Ω coax (RG-58/U or similar) and its BNC connector are not. RAMI specifies at least 2 ft (0.6 m) from other antennas and reflective surfaces; on composite or wood aircraft, a ground plane of two crossed 48 in (1.2 m) copper wires is made inside the skin. Installation in a certified aircraft needs an approved modification and a Certificate of Release to Service. Fit depends on the aircraft type and the COM radio model.
