Garmin 010-02886-00 is the GRA 5500/55 External Filter from the primary vendor (unit 011-06280-00), an optional TSO-authorized accessory for the GRA 55 and GRA 5500 radar altimeters. The passive RF bandpass filter is installed in the coaxial line between the receiver (RX) port and the RX antenna and adds rejection of high-power signals outside the 4.2–4.4 GHz band. It has two TNC connectors and weighs 0.22 kg.
One filter is used per radar altimeter; in dual or triple installations each unit has its own filter of the same P/N. The filter is fastened to the airframe with 4-40 screws and connected by coaxial cable on both sides. Each RX line with the filter must stay within 5.0 dB loss at 4.3 GHz and 1–30 ft length, and a zero-foot calibration follows installation. Installation needs an approved modification and a Certificate of Release to Service. Fit depends on the radar altimeter model and the aircraft type.
