Garmin GA 55A (010-10598-00) is a SiriusXM satellite antenna for external mounting on top of the fuselage, in the through-mount ARINC 743 footprint. Garmin lists it as the through-mount antenna for the GDL 69 and GDL 69A SXM data link receivers, and the G3X Touch installation manual lists it as the SXM antenna for the GDL 51R and GDL 52R. The catalog P/N includes installation kit K00-00186-00; the antenna weighs 0.20 kg.
The antenna needs an unobstructed view of the sky, at least 3 ft (0.9 m) from transmitting antennas such as VHF COM, HF, DME, transponder and radar, at least 6 in (15 cm) from GPS and other receive-only antennas, and a metal ground plane of at least 8 in (20 cm) diameter. The base is sealed with gasket 253-00138-00, and the four supplied #10-32 stainless screws are torqued to 20–25 in-lb; washers and locking nuts are not supplied. On a certified aircraft the installation needs approved data and a Certificate of Release to Service; in the G3X Touch AML STC the antenna is approved as interface only. Fit depends on the SXM receiver model and the aircraft type.
