Beschreibung
RAMI AV-17 is a VHF COM antenna for 118–137 MHz, designed for mounting on the underside of the aircraft for air-to-ground communication. The low-profile whip rises from a four-bolt base; the antenna is 9.0 in (229 mm) high and 21.3 in (541 mm) long, weighs 8 oz (227 g) and has a female BNC connector.
It is vertically polarized with an omnidirectional pattern, 50 Ω nominal impedance, VSWR of 3.0:1 maximum and 30 W RF power capacity. The FAA has authorized the AV-17 to TSO-C37d and TSO-C38d. RAMI lists it as a direct replacement for the CI 122. It comes in gloss white (AV-17), gloss black (AV-17(-GB)) and CARC black (AV-17(-B)).
A rubber pad, a back-up plate, mounting hardware and a drilling template for four 3/16 in mounting holes and an 11/16 in connector hole are supplied. The 50 Ω coax (RG-58/U or similar) and its BNC connector are not included. RAMI specifies at least 2 ft (0.6 m) from other antennas and reflective surfaces; on composite or wood aircraft, a ground plane of two crossed 48 in (1.2 m) copper wires is made inside the skin. Installation in a certified aircraft needs an approved modification and a Certificate of Release to Service. Fit depends on the aircraft type and the COM radio model.
