RAMI AVT-4 is a VHF COM blade antenna for 118–137 MHz. The radiating element is encapsulated in rigid polyurethane foam inside a low-drag LURAN-S plastic housing with Skydrol-resistant white polyurethane paint. The antenna is 13 in (330 mm) high, weighs up to 20 oz (567 g) and has a female BNC connector.
It is vertically polarized with an omnidirectional pattern, 50 Ω nominal impedance, VSWR of 3.0:1 maximum and 30 W CW RF power. It is rated to 350 mph (304 kt) and 50,000 ft, with a drag of 0.85 lb at 250 mph. The FAA has authorized the AVT-4 to TSO-C37d and TSO-C38d.
Mounting hardware, a neoprene mounting pad and a drilling template are included; the 50 Ω coax (RG-58/U or similar) with a male BNC connector is not. RAMI specifies at least 2 ft (0.6 m) from other antennas and reflective surfaces and a good electrical bond to a metal skin; on composite or wood aircraft, a ground plane of two crossed 48 in (1.2 m) copper wires is made inside the skin. No tuning is required. Installation in a certified aircraft needs an approved modification and a Certificate of Release to Service. Fit depends on the aircraft type and the COM radio model.
