Garmin GA 35S (010-02639-00) is a TSO-C190 active GPS/WAAS antenna with a teardrop footprint, through-mounted on top of the fuselage and connected by a single TNC connector. It measures 84.8 × 119.6 mm, stands 25.4 mm above the skin and weighs 0.24 kg. The receiver powers the preamplifier over the coax cable (4.5–14.4 V DC, 0.06 A at 5 V).
Garmin supplies the GA 35S in the GPS 175, GNC 355/355A, GNX 375 and GTX 335 with GPS kits and lists it as the antenna for the IFR GPS versions of the AXIS displays. It operates from −55 to +70 °C up to 55,000 ft. The installation needs a metal ground plane with a radius of at least 7.5 in (190.5 mm), at least 2 ft from VHF COM antennas, 22.5 in (571 mm) from L-band and UHF transmit antennas and at least 9 in centre-to-centre from other antennas. Washers, locknuts and any doubler are not included.
Garmin states that the FAA TSO authorization makes the GA 35S an approved article in the EASA system; the installation still needs an approved modification and a Certificate of Release to Service. The US AML STC SA02018SE-D is not automatic EASA approval. Fit depends on the aircraft type and the GPS receiver it serves.
