Garmin GA 56 kit 010-10040-01 is a TSO’d GPS antenna in the stud-mount teardrop housing for external mounting on top of the fuselage, with a BNC connector. Garmin’s GNS 530 installation manual lists it as a TSO-C129 antenna with a nominal 16 dB gain at 1.5 GHz; it is GPS-only, not a WAAS antenna. The antenna weighs 0.11 kg plus 0.05 kg of hardware on a 107.4 × 65.8 mm footprint.
The kit contains antenna 011-00134-00, backing plate 115-00031-00, four #8-32 self-locking nuts and gasket 253-00002-00; no cable is included. The preamplifier is powered through the BNC centre conductor at 4.0–5.5 V DC, 25 mA maximum. Garmin lists the GA 56 for the GPS 500 and GNS 530/530A (Mod 1 or later) and as a GPS antenna for the G3X Touch GDU 4X0 displays, and its catalog offers it with AXIS and G500/G600 TXi systems.
Garmin specifies a metal ground plane of at least 15 in radius, 22.5 in from other L-band and UHF antennas, and support for a 5 lb drag load. Installation on a certified aircraft needs approved data and a Certificate of Release to Service. Fit depends on the GPS receiver or display model and the aircraft type.
