Garmin 010-12444-00 is the glareshield-mounted GPS antenna with a TNC connector (unit P/N 011-04036-00). It mounts on top of the instrument panel glareshield with hook-and-loop fastening or screws and feeds the GPS receiver built into the Garmin G5 and G3X Touch. The antenna measures 73 × 15 × 56 mm, weighs 0.20 lb (91 g) and comes with an 8 ft (2.4 m) lead pre-installed.
On a G5 the TNC version connects through the TNC/BNC adapter 330-01754-00; the BNC version 010-12444-10 connects directly. A primary G5 installed as ADI, HSI or DG without a connection to a WAAS-capable GPS source must be connected to this antenna. The location needs a clear view of the sky through the windshield and must not obstruct the pilot’s view; screw holes must not pass through ventilation or defrost channels.
Garmin lists the antenna in the equipment of the G5 Part 23 AML STC SA01818WI, and the G3X Touch Part 23 AML STC SA01899WI gives it installation approval. A US AML STC is not automatic EASA approval; a certified aircraft needs an approved modification and a Certificate of Release to Service. Fit depends on the display the antenna connects to and the aircraft type.
