RAMI AV-61 is a broadband blade antenna for 960–1220 MHz, intended for DME, ATCRBS and Mode S transponders, TCAS and TAS. The gloss white housing is an acrylonitrile styrene acrylate (ASA) shell, 4.14 in (105 mm) long and 3.40 in (86 mm) high, with a female BNC connector and two #8-32 mounting studs 1.750 in (44.5 mm) apart. RAMI lists it as a direct replacement for the Honeywell KA61.
It is vertically polarized with an omnidirectional pattern, unity gain, 50 Ω nominal impedance, VSWR of 1.5:1 maximum and 2.5 kW peak RF power handling, and it is DC grounded for lightning protection. The FAA has authorized the AV-61 as an incomplete system to TSO-C66c, TSO-C74d, TSO-C112e, TSO-C118a and TSO-C147a.
A cellular neoprene mounting pad, mounting hardware and a template for two mounting holes and one connector hole are supplied. RAMI specifies a location at least 18 in (46 cm) from other metal protrusions on as flat a surface as possible, typically on the belly, depending on the function. The 50 Ω coax (RG-58/U or similar) with a male BNC connector is not included. Installation in a certified aircraft needs an approved modification and a Certificate of Release to Service. Fit depends on the aircraft type and the DME, transponder or traffic system model.
