Trig TA50 (P/N 02172-00) is a compact active WAAS GPS antenna with a fixed 3 m (118 in) cable and a QMA connector that plugs directly into the Trig TN72 GPS position source. Trig positions it for gliders, light sport and experimental aircraft where space for an antenna is limited. It receives 1575.42 MHz ±3 MHz with 26 dB of gain over a passive antenna.
The antenna takes 3–5 V DC over the coaxial cable, has an antenna gain above 1 dBic, a VSWR of 1.5:1 and a noise figure of 1.5 dB maximum, and operates from −40 to +85 °C. It is weatherproof and mounts inside the cabin, for example on top of the glareshield, or on the outside of the aircraft, with a clear 360° view of the sky to the horizon in level flight. It is fixed with the adhesive pad supplied; for best reception Trig recommends a metal surface of at least 7 × 7 cm as a ground plane. Trig also supplies the TA50 with a 1 m cable (02171-00).
The TA50 is not EASA or FAA certified. For Part 23 aircraft that need a conventional dorsal antenna, Trig points to the certified TA70. Fit depends on the aircraft type and the GPS receiver the antenna connects to.
